The design dates back to the year 1900 and was an absinthe advertising poster by the artist Nover for the popular Pontarlier, France distillery, Vichet. Pontarlier is located close the Swiss border in south-west France and is the birthplace of commercial absinthe. Vichet absinthe was considered one of the most popular in its day.
