Now you can have a visit from La Fée Verte (the Green Fairy) herself with this winged Lady Absinthe Fountain. Absinthe has commonly referred to as "la fee verte" (the green fairy) for over a century because of its greenish hue. Although not a reproduction of a vintage Belle Époque absinthe fountain, these lady designs are perhaps our most popular fountain.

The lid is adorned with the classic "pineapple" finial and is removable to add ice water into the glass bowl, which includes a water filter, which keeps ice from clogging the spouts. The pineapple represents hospitality and friendship. The glass bowl is mouth blown and the fountain is handmade.

Absinthe fountains were mostly used in high-end bars because of their expensive price tag. They were brought to the table, where the customer would prepare the absinthe himself. Absinthe fountains were (and still are) the preferred way to prepare absinthe, as one can perfectly control the rate of water. But unfortunately due to accidents, very few fountains have survived intact with its original glass bowl.

  • Instructions, history of absinthe and FAQs included.
  • Accommodates 1 to 2 glasses.

  • Allows approximately 8" (20.3 cm) under spouts for glasses.

  • Mouth-Blown, clear glass bowl.
  • Glass bowl holds approx. 6.5 cups (1.5 liters) of water.
  • Simple assembly required.
Instructions for Fountain Use:

Proper use consists of: pouring a dose of absinthe (typically an ounce) into an absinthe glass, placing an absinthe spoon across its rim, and adding a sugar cube(s) atop the spoon. The amount of sugar used is subject to one's preference. Situate the glass, so the sugar is located directly underneath a spout. Remove the fountain's lid to add fresh water and ice into the glass globe. Always add room temperature water first to the fountain before slowly adding ice. Using room temperature water is essential, as adding icy water or ice first can cause thermal shock, which could crack the glass. Replace the lid. With a slight turn of the spigot key, the cold water will begin to slowly drip onto the sugar cube below and into the glass of absinthe. To fully open the spigot, turn the spigot key parallel to the fountain arm, allowing the water to flow, creating a gentle stream. The water mixing with the herbs in the absinthe releases various oils and begins to perfume the air with the smell of fennel and anise. The combination will turn milky white as the water reacts with the anise. Add water and sugar to your taste. Stir, and drink.

The amount of water and sugar is subject to your liking. You can compare this process to preparing a coffee. Some people like their coffee sweeter or with more milk than others. You make your absinthe to your preference. Absinthe-to-water ratios vary depending on the absinthe, the amount of absinthe used, and your taste preference. A general rule of thumb is 1 part absinthe, to between 3 to 5 parts water.

After use, allow the water and glass globe to adjust to room temperature. For cleanup: pour any remaining water out, remembering to open all spouts where water will remain. Place the fountain upside down onto a bar towel, allow it to dry overnight. If only water is used, there is no further cleaning necessary. Refresh water before each use.

Our fountains have been tested with water before leaving the factory and again inspected in our warehouses before shipping. Upon receiving your fountain, we suggest hand washing the globe with soap and room temperature water and running water through the spouts before using. Do not use hot water. Do not wash in the dishwasher. California Prop 65 compliant when properly used.

    Fountain

A beautiful piece for not only functionality, but also aesthetically pleasing. The fountain is very high quality and packaged for ultimate safety. My only complaint is the “tightness” to which parts of it are put together. I’m afraid of using too much pressure to unscrew them.

    impressive fountain

I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with this purchase. My wife was likewise impressed. The entire piece is well made and sturdy. In fact it is quite heavy and sits well on our bar. It looks great. The weight of our unit is 4 pounds 9.9 ounces and that is after it's unpackaged. The unit comes well packaged in three parts, the metal base with sculpture, the clear glass bowl with metal bottom that screws to the base and the metal cap that sits in the top of the bowl that is rimmed with a metal ring. Everything fits well. There is nothing plastic about this unit ladies and gentlemen. One thing that I liked was the fact that the two spouts are actually welded to the metal base of the glass bowl; it's all one piece. Both spouts work very well and allow the dispensing of water either as drips or a small flow; just as described on the website. That allows one to bring la fee verte to life in a time frame that suits their fancy while they watch her ethereal dance unfold. We have used our unit twice to prepare excellent absinthe drinks in the beautiful Pontarlier Absinthe Glasses that we also purchased from Maison Absinthe and it works very well. I had been making absinthe drinks without a fountain previously but I can say that this takes my bar-tending to a totally different dimension, perhaps into the Belle Époque. As described, the unit came with care and use instructions as well as a two page description of absinthe, along with FAQ's and instructions on how to prepare a traditional French/Swiss absinthe. I would highly recommend this unit. It is most definitely un objet d'art. Merci bien Maison Absinthe. Perhaps the next time my wife and I are in Baton Rouge we can come by and visit your establishment.
