Brouilleurs

A brouilleur ("scrambler" in French) is used to slowly add water to absinthe. By using a brouilleur, water is allowed to gradually combine with the absinthe, releasing its essential oils and perfuming the air with the smell of anise and fennel. They are also a wonderful way to observe the louching process (the change in color of the absinthe occurring when the anis in the absinthe begins to react with the water to turn milky white).

Brouilleurs (also referred to as drippers) are used in an absinthe service for one. If you prefer to use sugar, a cube (or cubes) can be added inside any of the drippers. Each piece below is an exact replica of an original late 19th century antique.
