Brevans HR Giger Absinthe (136 proof / 68% ABV) is a Swiss absinthe made in Kallnach, located just to the eat of the Val-de-Travers, the birthplace of absinthe. This absinthe strictly follows a recipe originally found in an 19th century French distiller's manual " La Fabrication des Liqueurs," by author Jacques de Brevans.

"This one has been around for quite some time, having been highly regarded amongst absinthe aficionados since right around the time absinthe became legal in the US again. A deep peridot color with hints of yellow greets you as you pour it into the glass. Louching with cold water produces an attractive louche. Quite proper. The aroma is dominated by pontica and other coloring herbs, giving it an alpine freshness that invites you to take a sip. The flavor is light and refreshing. There isn’t anything that really asserts itself. It’s well balanced, with all the correct flavors of absinthe: sweet anise, slightly bitter wormwood, slightly piney. It’s bracing in all the best ways. Spicy on the back palate, with the anise and wormwood lingering for quite some time. For anyone looking for a good representation of a ‘typical Belle Époque absinthe’ that might be slightly heavy on coloring herbs, you’d be spot on in picking up a bottle of this."
